Nursery Road Elementary School-Arts Magnet is full of rich tradition with a history of excellence. As an MSAP funded Arts Magnet school (Magnet Schools Assistance Program), we are the only elementary school in Lexington-Richland Five to offer media, visual, and performing arts with an extended arts rotation as well as Arts Integration in the general education classroom. We believe arts integration elevates the esteem of students while providing opportunities to grow as accomplished scholars and artists. Arts integration develops and connects a deeper understanding of cross-curricular content as well as boosts student achievement. The MSAP grant has allowed us to extend these beliefs into studios that set the foundation of our commitment to teaching elementary content through the lens of the arts.
Each studio is unique in its offerings for students. In the Visual Arts Studio, students will use pottery wheels to throw cups, bowls, and vases, and engage in collaborative works to include mixed media artwork such as collages and paintings. In the Performing Arts Studios, our Champions experience a wide variety of Music and Dance opportunities. We are the only elementary Dance Education program in the district, and in Music students explore and play a variety of World Percussion instruments as well as Orff-Schulwerk pedagogy, keyboards, and musical theater.
